![]() Find information on the Web. WebFerret is a handy and efficient way to use Web search engines to find information. It adds an entry to the Find option of your Windows 95 Start button, adding the option to find Web pages in addition to the standard files and folders. Enter your search terms, click on Match All Keywords or Match Any Keywords, and WebFerret will use your Internet connection to check several of the more popular search engines (Lycos, Alta Vista, Excite, Hotbot, WebCrawler, Magellan, Infoseek, Yahoo, and Veronica). You can also do more-advanced searches, limiting the number of matches in total or by engine. Once the results are returned, Tooltips give you a little more information about a site. Just double-click to bring up your browser and launch the page.
![]() ![]() Make tracks on your desktop. ZDNet's Monster Truck Screen Saver is a fun animated Windows screen saver that will rev up your desktop. ![]() ![]() Improve CD-ROM performance. Dramatically improve the performance of your CD-ROM drive with the award-winning CD-Quick Cache. This utility stores frequently read data in RAM or a combination of RAM and hard-drive space to make CD-ROM reads almost instantaneous. It loads as a Windows 95 Virtual Device Driver (VxD), using an intelligent caching algorithm and dynamic read-ahead buffering to ensure top performance. Persistent disk caching lets the cache remember from disc to disc and session to session. The included QuickMon utility shows the total reads requested by your CD-ROM application and how many reads CD-Quick Cache has saved. It can be used to change the configuration settings (without forcing a reboot). CD-Quick Cache is compatible with virtually all CD-ROM drives supported by Windows 95 and that use a 32-bit driver. It automatically uses the drive with the most space available for cache storage. If you're tired of waiting on your pokey CD-ROM drive, CD-Quick Cache can add some zip to the task.

![]() ![]() Give Bill Gates a pie in the face. No matter how you feel about Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, you'll no doubt enjoy giving him a face full of coconut meringue in the Bill's Pie Toss screen saver. This free, first-rate monitor protector (from the authors of the top download "Hey Macaroni") gives you the satisfaction of throwing pies at Mr. Bill in a carnival atmosphere, through a cut-out "Mac-in-a-box" or "King Kong holding Janet Reno" pieboard, or as he tools by on a tricycle. When you get Bill smack in the face, his tongue comes out cartoon-style and licks the pie off. You can just sit back and enjoy the display, or you can switch to interactive mode and do the pie-pitching yourself. The graphics and sound are excellent, with three sound options and password protection provided. Chooser, a 16-bit screen-saver utility, is also included. A longer version with a dunking booth scene and no ads is available from the developer for $9.
![]() Relive the BattleZone in glorious 3D. Activision has resurrected its pioneering 3D shooter, BattleZone, and possibly spawned an entire new genre of computer gaming in the process. Remember the scenario? A certain meteor shower over the Bering Strait in the early 60's leads both the Americans and the Russians to discover alien biometals powerful enough to tip the balance of the Cold War. And before you know it, they're battling in outer space for the weapons that will ensure victory. BattleZone created such a sensation after its release that the U.S. Army began using modified versions for its own training. Now this great classic is back and better than ever! The gameplay is a superb hybrid of action and real-time strategy. From a first-person perspective, you control the production of and direct new units. You can jump into a vehicle and use it to fight if need be. Keyboard shortcuts let you give complex commands with just a few keystrokes, freeing you to fight and command at the same time. And that's good, because although you'll need to be sure you have enough units to defend yourself, you'll have to get in there and fight when the time comes. This demo includes four combat exercises and two missions. Although there are several known problems with BattleZone, they are well-documented and the included Windows Help file should be more than adequate.
